HVNP plans December programs
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will host several programs in December. All programs are free, but park entrance fees apply and a $2 donation helps support park programs.
The art of kapala, or stamping a design on fabric using plants, will be taught from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Award-winning musician, songwriter and producer Kenneth Makuakane will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Kilauea Visitor Center auditorium.
The park’s new artist-in-residence, Jean-Rene Leblanc, presents images from Calgary, Hawaii and Greece to contextualize the new body of work created during his residency. The event is from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 22 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
Attendees will learn how to weave ulana niu, or coconut fronds from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 23 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Kailua-Kona Seniors meet
Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet Wednesday at Don the Beachcomber Restaurant at Royal Kona Resort. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. Attendees should bring their invitation for entry. This is a pre-paid, pre-arranged activity.
No formal meeting will be held that week at Hale Halawai.

Tutu’s House lists programs
Tutu’s House hosts the following programs this week.
Ilio O Moku O Keawe/Dogs of the Big Island is held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with Tasi Autele and Ana Nawahine-Kahoopii, an educational presentation hosted by this community-run organization that helps relocate adoptabe dogs from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland.
Joan Maute presents “Introduction to Energy Healing” from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Maute, a certified Usui/Holy Fire Karuna Reiki master teacher, will discuss what energy healing is, why it works, and why people need it.
Chikako Hoshino-Powers, CMT, teaches “Self Massage for Ear and Head” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 12. Bring one large and two hand towels.
“Ayurvedic Healing and Digestion — What is Agni” meets from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 12, with Susan Wilesmith, a 15-year practitioner.
Tutu’s House, located in Waimea, is a project of Friends of the Future. There are no fees for its programs, but tax-deductible donations are welcome.

Chong discusses estate planning
Warren Chong, an independent associate with LegalShield, presents a free Basic Estate Planning Workshop at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 10, at Suite Possibilities, Suite 102, in the Chamber of Commerce Building in Kailua-Kona. Information and a “will questionnaire” will be provided to help participants complete this document.
